WINE GEEK WEEK: PORTUGAL EDITION happening August 13-18 at various locations in the Twin Cities, and featuring Portuguese wine specials at many great retailers and restaurants. Our partner for the week will be Ryan Opaz of Catavino.net, who is helping to make this one of the premier wine events the Twin Cities has ever seen!

So what is Wine Geek Week?

This is a concept I’ve had in the file cabinet for years (hence my excitement level is through the roof): a full week of tastings, movies, events, lunches, trade seminars, dinners, and of course a Grand Tasting around the chosen topic, plus the events and classes coincide with retailers and restaurants having wine special deals and pricing. It’s organized and designed by Twin Cities Wine Education in combination with a special guest expert (this time being Ryan Opaz of Catavino.net).

What kind of events are happening?

The week ranges from a free movie and Portuguese wine tasting Sunday afternoon, to an exclusive high end lunch at Restaurant Alma featuring the rarely opened and incredibly expensive Barca Velha (the “Grand Cru” of Portugal). The main event is the Grand Tasting occurring Monday night the 14th at Black Dog Lowertown. There is something for everybody at every price point depending on the type of events you like to attend.

The details

All events are ticketed events with limited seating. Tickets are required for entry and all attendees must of course be 21 years of age. All tickets are refundable up to seven days before the event, after that there is a no refund policy (though you may send somebody in your place … treat it as a ticket to a show). All events will be photographed and video recorded for promotional purposes.

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

Full details on all events can be found on the Eventbrite registration pages.
IF THERE IS ONE EVENT TO ATTEND, IT’S THE GRAND TASTING!

Join us for an exclusive dinner prepared by chef Laura Bonicelli working in coordination with Ryan Opaz of Catavino (co-author of The Undiscovered Food Stories of Northern Portugal, which will be available for sale at the event) for a showcase dinner of the flavors of Portugal.

When the dinner bell sounds, we’ll head inside for a coursed dinner featuring great food, education, wine rarities, and foods being sources specifically for the evening.
