Twin Cities Wine Education is proud to present a class on the history and people of a favorite winery.
Great Wineries of the World: Seghesio
Few American wineries have the amazing history and story like that of Seghesio. A true rags to riches (then back to rags, then even more riches) story, it begins in the late 1800’s and continues into the 21st century. And in this new class we’ll not only cover the history of the Seghesio family but the history of Italian immigrants in Sonoma county as well.
During my years as a wine sales rep (2001-2010) I represented Seghesio in Minnesota, and through success I was privileged to become the only three time “Seghesio Ambassador,” earning the honor of spending a week with the family in the vineyards and cellars each time I won the honor. Through those visits I got to know all the members of the family, from Pete (running the operation) to Ted (winemaker) to Ed (patriarch) to Jimmy (vineyard manager). They were some of the most formative wine trips of my life.
In this new class I’ll bring you all the stories and history while tasting incredible wines from this very special winery.
Look forward to Vermentino, Sonoma Zinfandel, Old Vine Zinfandel, Home Ranch Zinfandel, and the incredibly rare Venom Sangiovese (from Rattlesnake Hill behind the old family home).
You’ll learn more than you thought possible about the Zinfandel grape, farming in Dry Creek Valley, history of the Italian immigrant community, and much more.
I hope you can make it to his new and exciting class!
