Icon of California Wine: Beaulieu Vineyard 1989, 1982, 1974, 1970
March 13 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Twin Cities Wine Education LLC presents a very special wine event
Icons of California wine:
Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet 1989, 1982, 1974, and 1970
Extremely limited seating!
Before the days of cult wines and 100 point scoring systems, a handful of legendary wines from Napa Valley were produced and are still considered today to be some of the top wines ever made in America. One such wine is Beaulieu Vineyards’ Georges de Latour Vineyard, from the heart of Napa Valley in Rutherford.
Legendary winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff was at the helm of the making of this legendary wine until 1969, and since then it has continued a tradition of being a benchmark of California Cabernet. Current releases sell for $135 a bottle at the winery.
To examine this special property and this incredibly special winery, we will taste a series of Beaulieu’s Cabernet Sauvignons from the 1970’s and 1980’s. We will cover in detail the history of the winery and vineyards, the stories of the owners and winemakers, and how best to understand the region of Rutherford in the heart of Napa Valley.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to taste such a series of wines while learning about key aspects of the history of Napa Valley. Seating is extremely limited.
As wine writer Ray Isle said in Wines & Vines magazine:
“Beyond being the flagship Cabernet of one of Napa Valley’s best-known wineries, BV’s Georges de Latour Private Reserve is one of the few iconic California Cabernets. I’m not including the so-called “cult” Cabernets—the Harlans and Screaming Eagles of the world—in this category, because pricey and sought-after though they are, and even as good as they are, they just don’t have the historic weight. I mean the Cabernets that helped define Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, or helped clarify what its winemakers could aspire to. Robert Mondavi Reserve, Beringer Private Reserve, Heitz Wine Cellars Martha’s Vineyard, Chateau Montelena’s Estate bottling—these wines live in that realm.”
Wines to be served:
1989 Beaulieu Vineyard Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon (12.5% ABV)
1982 Beaulieu Vineyard Georges de latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (13.0% ABV)
1974 Beaulieu Vineyard Georges de latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (13.5% ABV)
1970 Beaulieu Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (12.0% ABV)
and more as we learn about Napa Valley and Rutherford in particular
