Twin Cities Wine Education is proud to present a special class featuring a comprehensive overview of one of the great wine regions of the world
Many consider it the greatest wine region on the planet, or at least on par with Burgundy and Bordeaux. The region of Piemonte, in far northwestern Italy, is well known for Barolo and Barbaresco (which of course we’ll cover in this class), but there is also so much more.
In this new class offering we are looking at Piemonte as a whole, covering not only the wine regions and styles (from Arneis and Moscato to Barolo and Barbaresco) but also the culture, history, and food of the area.
This will be the most comprehensive class we have ever done on this particular region.
Wine varities included in the discussion and tasting:
Arneis – the great white variety of Piemonte and the story of its return from near extinction
Dolcetto – the ‘litte dark one’ that makes dynamic juicy wines
Barbera – possibly the greatest food pairing wine on the planet, and you’ll learn why
Nebbiolo – including Barbaresco and Barolo
Moscato – and an overview of the specific winemaking methods that have turned this wine around in the last 20 years.
Plus: A complete overview of the DOC’s and DOCG’s of Piemonte – that will suprise you!
Plus: Hints and tips for label dechipering so you get what you are really looking for
Plus: Hints and tips on visiting the area
… and much more!
Class instructor: Jason Kallsen
Location: North Loop Wine and Spirits
Start time: 6:30pm
Number of wines to be served: 6 outstanding selections
Other notes: Free parking can usually be had behind the store. Also free parking at Red Rabbit if you eat there ahead of the class.
What is Twin Cities Wine Education?
Twin Cities Wine Education Inc. is an independent wine education company founded in 1998 by Jason Kallsen (Certified Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers and Certified Specialist in Wine with the Society of Wine Educators). With no financial ties to any winery, distributor, importer, or retailer, Twin Cities Wine Education prides itself on truly independent education, with no sales pitch for the wines involved. The company’s mission is to build wine confidence while sparking wine curiosity.
Is there wine served at the class?
Oh my yes! Usually six selections (occasionally a bit fewer or more, but we aim for six), all presented in top quality Riedel stemware at correct temperature and decanted if needed.
What can I expect at a Twin Cities Wine Education class?
We pride ourselves on our independent education, free of sales pitch or distributor influence. Upon arriving you’ll receive the class outline and any handouts and maps relevant to the topic. It’s a great way to meet new friends, for you’ll be seated with other equally curious students. Most classes are approximately two hours, with a short break in the middle.
How many people come to the wine classes?
Some exclusive classes (older vintages, where we only have one bottle of each wine, for instance) are limited to about 12 people. The rest of the classes are based on the space we are in, usually capped in the 30-50 person range.
What is the refund policy?
Full refunds for any reason up to seven days before the event. Within seven days (or after the class) there are no refunds available. Your ticket is fully transferable to anybody over 21 years of age, and there is no need to inform us of the transfer … simply have the new recipient arrive with the ticket in hand or knowing the original ticket buyer’s name.
