Ultimate Intro to the Wines of Europe
September 19, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Twin Cities Wine Education is proud to present the best overview class available on the big three wine countries of Europe: France, Italy, and Spain
ULTIMATE INTRO TO WINE: THE WINES OF EUROPE
When you first start to learn about wine, it is easier to learn about California, Australian, and South American wines for several reasons. First, these places (especially the west coast of America) are familiar to us and we know how to pronounce the locations. Secondly, the grape variety is often presented on the label, simplifying the understanding of what’s in the bottle. And lastly, they are the majority of wines available in most wine shops in the United States.
Then something strange and wonderful happens… maybe it’s a bottle of Puligny-Montrachet from France, or a Soave Classico from Italy, or a Priorat from Spain.
Whatever it may be, you find yourself intrigued by the wonderful taste and aromas, which are so different from American wines. You wonder just what it is that you are enjoying. Picking up the bottle, you look hard to discover what grape you are drinking, to no avail. Why is European wine so concerned about place with rarely a mention of what grapes are involved? These labels are confusing to many, so where do you possibly start when learning about European wine?
You start with the our “European Wine 101” class, that’s where! In this info-packed class we cover many topics including but not limited to:
• A brief history of wine making in Italy, Spain, and France
• The cultural and style differences between European wines and American wines
• The geography of topography of Europe’s wine regions
• An overview of the French concept of “Terroir”
• Details on reading and understanding Italian, French, and Spanish wine labels
• A discussion on finding the biggest bang for the buck in European wine
and more! We’ll taste through a range of great examples and use the wines we are tasting to grow your understanding of the ‘old world’ of wine.
We hope you can make it to this awesome wine class!

What is Twin Cities Wine Education?
Twin Cities Wine Education Inc. is an independent wine education company founded in 1998 by Jason Kallsen (Certified Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers and Certified Specialist in Wine with the Society of Wine Educators). With no financial ties to any winery, distributor, importer, or retailer, Twin Cities Wine Education prides itself on truly independent education, with no sales pitch for the wines involved. The company’s mission is to build wine confidence while sparking wine curiosity.
Is there wine served at the class?
Oh my yes! Usually six selections (occasionally a bit fewer or more, but we aim for six), all presented in top quality Riedel stemware at correct temperature and decanted if needed.
What can I expect at a Twin Cities Wine Education class?
We pride ourselves on our independent education, free of sales pitch or distributor influence. Upon arriving you’ll receive the class outline and any handouts and maps relevant to the topic. It’s a great way to meet new friends, for you’ll be seated with other equally curious students. Most classes are approximately two hours, with a short break in the middle.
How many people come to the wine classes?
Some exclusive classes (older vintages, where we only have one bottle of each wine, for instance) are limited to about 12 people. The rest of the classes are based on the space we are in, usually capped in the 30-50 person range.
What is the refund policy?
Full refunds for any reason up to seven days before the event. Within seven days (or after the class) there are no refunds available. Your ticket is fully transferable to anybody over 21 years of age, and there is no need to inform us of the transfer … simply have the new recipient arrive with the ticket in hand or knowing the original ticket buyer’s name.
What other services does Twin Cities Wine Education offer?
