Our hosts in France:

Megan and Julien Martel

We’re in the best hands possible in Bordeaux. Megan is from Minnesota but fell in love with a Frenchman from Lyon. Julien fell in love with Megan and brought her into his French family. They discovered their shared dreams and ambitions are limitless, and went on the hunt for an adventure, a business, and a lifestyle of hospitality.

They found and invested in a old property in Auros, France and went to work renovating it. Two years of dust, construction, and endless conversations starting with “What did we get into here?” led to the opening of Rouge Bordeaux B&B!

At the same time, they welcomed the arrival of their adorable children, Sawyer and Fynn.

About the Art Journaling and creative work with Angela, in her own words ...

Whether you identify yourself as a “creative” or label yourself a person that “can’t draw a straight line” there is an amazing adventure here for you.

Imagine indulging your senses exploring picturesque vineyards, savoring exquisite wines and food, and immersing yourself in the vibrant local culture. Now imagine yourself diving into the joy of creative travel journaling throughout the adventure! My personalized journaling workshops focus on creativity as well as foundational art techniques in a non-judgmental environment. I provide all the necessary basics to get you going, and lead creative exercises early on in the trip so you can capture your travels in any way you see fit throughout the voyage.

These are truly techniques for EVERYONE. I encourage expression over perfection; Drawing isn’t solely about replicating reality flawlessly. It’s a means of self-exploration, communication, and creativity. It’s about conveying ideas, emotions, and perspectives. My exercises encourage individuals to explore unconventional solutions and think innovatively. As an added bonus this mindset translates into the business realm, allowing for creative problem-solving and fresh approaches to challenges. It’s a mindset shift that allows you to see new potentials in the world around you as well as within yourself.

So bring me your crooked lines. I will show you how wonderful they are and light a creative fire in you that you didn’t know you had. Sounds like a helluva souvenir to bring home, huh?

Thursday and Friday

September 26-27

Thursday starts with an early breakfast before heading to the stunning area of Arcachon, where the largest sand dune in Europe, Dune du Pilat, overlooks the channel. Arcachon is also the town where a young Anthony Bourdain first discovered his love of food and cooking. It’s one of our favorite places in all of Europe.

After enjoying the dune, we’ll head to town to take a private boat to Cap Ferret for an oyster lunch at La Vie Sauvage, with enough time for art journaling, exploring, and shopping.

Heading back to Rouge Bordeaux, you’ll be exhuasted by the long day so the evening is on your own to relax, recover, and enjoy a local restaurant.

Friday, our final full day together, is all about the French countryside!

We’ll enjoy poolside painting and journaling plus a wild orchid hunt. The early afternoon will be filled with a trip to the nearby historic town of Bazas for lunch at Hugo Delices and enjoying the local market, thrifting, and shopping.

We’ll head back to Rouge Bordeaux for rest and packing ahead of a raclette dinner and final night wine party at the B&B, orchestrated by Chef Julien and Jason.

Saturday morning it’s back to Bordeaux to catch your train to Paris, or your flight to your next European destination.
