Exploring the wines of Piedmonte
January 19, 2013 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Twin Cities Wine presents Exploring the wines of Piedmonte.
The region of Piedmonte, Italy (roughly an hour from Milan, in the Northwest corner) is near and dear to the wine lovers of the world. It is here that two of the most famous regions, Barolo and Barbaresco, produce ageworthy and complex wines from the Nebbiolo grape.
It is also the home of Barbera, possibly one of the best food pairing wines in the world. Add to that stunning whites (from the nearly extinct Arneis grape) and dessert wines (Moscato d’Asti) and you have a wine paradise.
The terroir and history of this region is distinctive, and we will cover in detail the history of the food culture of Piedmonte (such as answering the question: why is tuna a speciality in this landlocked area?) as well as hints on visiting the region.
This class will feature the wines of Rizzi, a fantastic and very small prodcuer located in Barbaresco. We will taste the Rizzi Chardonnay, Rizzi Barbera, and Rizzi Barbaresco, as well as noshing on cheeses and meats from the kitchen of Scusi. Only $20 per person, all registration fees paid by Twin Cities Wine Education.
Class begins at 3pm sharp and lasts for one hour (and it just so happens the Scusi Happy Hour begins in the wine bar at 4pm!).
