Gigondas, Vacqueyras, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape
January 28, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Twin Cities Wine is proud to present a very special class detailing the best regions of the Southern Rhône Valley: Gigondas, Vacqueyras, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. These three regions represent the best of the Southern Rhône has to offer, and as a personal favorite region of mine I’m as excited as can be to present this class for you.
We’ll start with an overview of the main red grapes of the region: Grenache, Mourvedre, Carignane, and Syrah. Explaining the ‘mix’ of the blending of the grapes is essential to understanding these wines. Next we’ll move into the amazing history of the region, from Romans through WWII and into today. Next comes the geology and microclimates of each region, including the reasons behind a wide swing of differences when it comes to budbreak, flowering, and harvest dates (and what this brings to the wines).
Of course we’ll be tasting top notch examples as we go along including two examples from each of the three featured regions, finishing with an aged wine showing how beautiful the evolution of these wines can be with time. All wines are served in high quality Riedel stemware, as always in a Twin Cities Wine Education class.
We hope you can join us for this very special evening!
