OLD WORLD vs NEW WORLD: The Foundations of Wine series

September 19, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Twin Cities Wine Education presents a new series of great classes to build your wine confidence and spark vino curiosity!

with instructor Shar Peterson

There are a handful of topics that can help you understand every wine in the world. They include oak, acidity, body, terroir, elevation, and climate. Through our Foundations of Wine series, you will become an expert on these particular topics and how they integrate into the wines you purchase.

There are eight topics in the Foundations Series: Acidity, Oak, Tannin, Age, Soil, Elevation, Climate, and Old vs. New World. Graduates of all eight classes get a special package including a copy of The Wine Bible by Karen MacNeil and gift cards to local fine wine shops.

In this class, we’ll explore the major differences between European wines and the wines of the rest of the world

What was the start of wine in Europe? What country first made wine and when?

How did the Greeks and Romans impact the spread of wine?

Where did Phylloxera come from, and what did it do?

Who brought the first vines to the New World?

What are the stylistic differences between European wines and wines from elsewhere?

Are the lines blurring in the old world vs. new world debate?

What European wines are best for a California drinker to begin with? And vice versa?

… and so much more!

All of these questions and more will be addressed, while we taste through five great wines to help emphasize the points. You will leave with a clear understanding of the role of the new world and the old world in wine quality, helping YOU get more bang for the buck with all of your future wine purchases!

Class starts at 6 pm sharp. Hope to see you there!
