Oregon Pinot Noir: The Founding Families
December 17, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Twin Cities Wine is proud to present an amazing evening for Pinot Noir lovers …
The Founding Families of Oregon Pinot:
Featuring the wines and stories of Eyrie, Adelsheim, Bethel Heights, Knudsen, and Ponzi
Join us for a very special night featuring the wine and stories of the five families that were at the start of the Willamette Valley wine industry in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
Their stories are remarkable, as are the wines. And we’ll be tasting a great Pinot Noir from each of them as we learn the background and history of their amazing struggles and subsequent success.
We’ll begin with a comprehensive discussion on Willamette Valley in the 1960’s, the valley that David and Diana Lett moved into to do what everybody said was impossible: planting Pinot Noir to make world-class wine. The success of Eyrie Vineyards proved the naysayers wrong, and the Letts were soon joined by a string of important founding families of the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir story.
The families Adelsheim, Casteel (Bethel Heights), Knudsen, and Ponzi all followed suit and started to craft the amazing Pinot Noir world of Oregon that we know today.
We will learn about all five families and the wineries they founded. Additionally, we’ll discuss Pinot Noir in particular and the importance of clonal selection, which many credit as the work that unlocked the possibility of Pinot Noir in Oregon. On top of that, we’ll discuss Willamette Valley today and how best to visit the region for the ultimate Pinot Noir trip.
Five incredible stories, five incredible Pinot Noirs, and a night to help you raise your understanding of this important grape and region. We hope you can join us!
