The 2010 Bouchard Père & Fils Premier Cru Burgundies
May 11, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Twin Cities Wine presents a very special evening of legendary wines
The 2010 Vintage of Bouchard Père & Fils Premier Cru Burgundies
(plus a Grand Cru Chablis)
There is little debate in the wine world that the 2010 vintage in Burgundy is one for the ages. This was the last truly profound and worldly collectable Burgundy vintage before the dramatic weather, price increases, and supply decreases that have marked 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.
As Stephen Tanzer, considered by many the leading wine critic when it comes to Burgundy, said: “First, the very good news: all things considered, 2010 is the finest vintage for red Burgundy I have tasted since I made my first tour of the region in 1988. The vintage has virtually all the elements of Burgundy greatness: vibrant aromas and flavors accurate to terroir; bright acidity; inner-mouth tension; intensity without weight; palpable minerality; ripe, fine-grained tannins; and the concentration, balance and backbone to support a long evolution in bottle. The bad news is that the wines, especially from the best estates, are very expensive and, thanks to powerful worldwide demand, scarcer than ever in the U.S. market.”
I have acquired a selection of Premier Cru reds and a Premier Cru and Grand Cru white from one of my favorite producers, Bouchard Pére & Fils, to enjoy while learning about this storied region and phenomenal vintage. These bottles have perfect provenance and having enjoyed a few of them in the last year I expect this will be one of the great tastings of 2015.
Wines to be tasted (along with averaged retail pricing): William Fevre Chablis Cote Bouguerots Chablis Grand Cru 2010 ($95.99) Bouchard Pére & Fils Clos de la Mousse Blanc 1er Cru 2010 ($55.99) Bouchard Pére & Fils Beaune Marconnets 1er Cru 2010 ($55.99) Bouchard Pére & Fils Beaune Teurons 1er Cru 2010 ($55.99) Bouchard Pére & Fils Nuits St. Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru 2010 ($104.99) Bouchard Pére & Fils Volnay Caillerets “Cuvee Carnot” 1er Cru 2010 ($81.99) Bouchard Pére & Fils Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru 2010 ($69.99)
Ahead of the tasting we’ll do a brief overview of Burgundy and the concept of terroir before stepping wine by wine through the lineup. All wines will be decanted before the event and served at correct temperature and in Riedel stemware.
Don’t miss out! Seating is, obviously, very limited.
