The Oldest Wine World: Exploring the Wines of Georgia
July 8 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$42.00
Twin Cities Wine Education is proud to present a new class on a very old region!
The Wines of Georgia: An exploration into the old old old world of winemaking
It’s the birthplace of wine. It’s where evidence of 8000 years of winemaking has been found. It’s an area steeped in tradition and history. And we are just now, in America, truly discovering their wines.
Join us for a special night of learning about and tasting these incredible wines, newly available to the state of Minnesota. We’ll begin with a comprehensive history of the oldest winemaking regions (expect tons of maps!), including the latest archeological evidence discovered in just the last five years.
Then we will cover the winemaking techniques of Georgia, where ‘handmade wine’ is taken to a new level when it comes to buried amphorae, hand-ladled, and hand-bottled final wines, and ancient varieties. You’ll learn all about ‘orange’ wine and its attributes as well as issues.
The most eye-opening part of the evening will undoubtedly be the tasting. We have tracked down wines that when tasted side by side will amaze you: the same grape variety, with one wine produced in the ‘clean and modern’ fashion and the other produced in the very traditional methods.
We will round out the event with notes and tips for visiting the Republic of Georgia and how to have a great experience in their ancient wine regions.
