The White Burgundy Masterclass (including great Grand Crus!)
July 1, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Twin Cities Wine Education presents a special evening of incredible wines
THE WHITE BURGUNDY MASTERCLASS including amazing Grand Cru selections
Of all the wine regions of the world, Burgundy holds the charm and attention of wine experts the most. Why? Quite simple, really. Burgundy produces many of the best, most legendary, and most complex wines of the world.
It’s the region where terroir reigns. Where one tiny parcel of land can contain more geological pockets than you can imagine. It’s the region where the village level wines, the Premier Crus, and the Grand Crus have been delineated for hundreds of years.
It’s also one of the most difficult regions to understand, but that’s where the White Burgundy Masterclass comes in.
Join us to discuss a historical overview of the region going back to Roman times. From there we will cover the impact of World War II on the area, including a brief discussion on the “Champagne Campaign” and how the region was saved from destruction.
A majority of the class will be to help decipher and understand the complexities of the region’s geography and geology and how it relates to the labeling system. Examples from top regions and producers will be tasted, including Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines. Selections will range from Chablis to the southern end of the Cote d’Or. This will be an exemplary selection of incredible wines, many of which are rarely available to taste.
Particular discussion will focus on the premier regions of Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet. We will learn what makes these regions different, producers to seek out in these areas, the best vintages, and more. Most importantly, we will discuss how to shop for White Burgundy to get the most bang for your well earned buck.
This class will be comprehensive and intensive, and we will taste outstanding wines that will help define for you exactly why Burgundy is one of the most coveted wine regions in the world. Seating is extremely limited!
