Vino and Vinyl: ABBEY ROAD + Pinot Noir
November 30, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Twin Cities Wine Education presents a new concept for wine and music lovers …
VINO and VINYL
The Beatles ABBEY ROAD + PINOT NOIR (blind tasting!)
Join us for the return of Vino and Vinyl with Twin Cities Wine Education!
Each Vino and Vinyl night will be a memorable pairing of a particular wine variety along with a legendary album played on 180g vinyl on top-quality equipment including a U-Turn Audio turntable and a Jamo 626 speaker system. This is a music listening experience, with lights turned down and the volume turned up!
We will start the night with a history of Pinot Noir, from its humble beginnings Burgundy to the new dynamic wines of California. Accompanying the education will be a range of outstanding wines, along with handouts, maps, and deep information.
Then we’ll segway into discussing the legendary 1969 album by The Beatles, Abbey Road. As noted via Wikipedia:
Many critics have since cited Abbey Road as the Beatles’ greatest album. In a retrospective review, Nicole Pensiero of PopMatters called it “an amazingly cohesive piece of music, innovative and timeless”. Mark Kemp of Paste viewed the album as being “among The Beatles’ finest works, even if it foreshadows the cigarette-lighter-waving arena rock that technically skilled but critically maligned artists from Journey to Meatloaf would belabor throughout the ’70s and ’80s”.Neil McCormack of The Daily Telegraph dubbed it the Beatles’ “last love letter to the world” and praised its “big, modern sound”, calling it “lush, rich, smooth, epic, emotional and utterly gorgeous”.
Both sides A and B will be accompanied by Pinot Noirs from Burgundy, Willamette Valley, and California. WE WILL BE SERVING THE WINES BLIND TO SEE IF THERE’S A GEOGRAPHICAL WINNER when it comes to the wine and music pairings.
We will also discuss the ideas of wine and music pairing, and how certain wavelengths of rhythm and types of music and influence our sense of taste and wine enjoyment.
We hope you can make it for this new and fascinating class.
