Vino and Vinyl: REVOLVER + Syrah
January 12, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Twin Cities Wine Education presents a new concept for wine and music lovers …
VINO and VINYL
Class one: The Beatles REVOLVER + SYRAH
Join us for the inaugural edition of a new concept in wine education: Vino and Vinyl with Twin Cities Wine Education. Each Vino and Vinyl night will be a memorable pairing of a particular wine variety along with a legendary album played on 180g vinyl on top quality equipment including a vintage Marantz turntable and a Jamo 626 speaker system.
We will start the night with a history of Syrah, from its humble beginnings in the Northern Rhone Valley to the muscular styles of Australia and California. Accompanying the education will be a range of outstanding wines, along with handouts, maps, and deep information.
Then we’ll segway into discussing the legendary 1966 album by The Beatles, Revolver. As noted via Wikipedia:
“The Beatles recorded the album following a three-month break from professional commitments at the start of 1966, and during a period when London was feted as the era’s cultural capital. The songs reflect the influence of psychedelic drugs such as LSD and the increasing sophistication of the Beatles’ lyrics to address themes including death and transcendence from material concerns. With no thoughts of reproducing their new material in concert, the band made liberal use of studio techniques such as varispeeding, reversed tapes, close audio miking and automatic double tracking(ADT), in addition to employing musical instrumentation outside of their standard live set-up. Some of the changes in studio practice introduced by Revolver, particularly ADT, were soon adopted throughout the recording industry. The sessions also produced a non-album single, “Paperback Writer” backed with “Rain“, for which the Beatles filmed their first on-location promotional films.”
Side one will be accompanied by Syrah wines of France, side two will be accompanied by a selection of wines from America and Australia. We will also discuss the ideas of wine and music pairing, and how certain wavelengths of rhythm and types of music and influence our sense of taste and wine enjoyment.
We hope you can make it for this new and fascinating class.
