Vino and Vinyl: SGT PEPPERS + The Wines of Portugal
December 13 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$60.00
Twin Cities Wine Education presents a new concept for wine and music lovers …
VINO and VINYL
The Beatles SGT PEPPERS + The Wines of Portugal
Join us for the return of Vino and Vinyl with Twin Cities Wine Education!
Each Vino and Vinyl night will be a memorable pairing of a particular wine category along with a legendary album played on 180g vinyl on top-quality equipment including a U-Turn Audio turntable and a Jamo 626 speaker system.
This is a music listening experience, with lights turned down and the volume turned up!
We will start the night with a history of the wines of Portugal, explaining the relationship with Great Britain, the impact of joining the European Union, and more. Accompanying the education will be a range of outstanding wines, along with handouts, maps, and deep information.
Then we’ll segway into discussing the legendary album by The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, considered by many the greatest album of all time. As noted via Wikipedia:
Newsweek‘s Jack Kroll called Sgt. Pepper a “masterpiece” and compared its lyrics with literary works by Edith Sitwell, Harold Pinter and T. S. Eliot, particularly “A Day in the Life”, which he likened to Eliot’s The Waste Land. The New Yorker paired the Beatles with Duke Ellington, as artists who operated “in that special territory where entertainment slips into art”.
Both sides A and B will be accompanied by wines from Portugal. Why? Because an album with this much texture and diversity deserves an equally wide range of wines to enjoy while listening. Where Vinho Verde may go with “When I’m 64” you’ll need some Touriga Nacional to fly with the opening track. At least that’s the theory, we will see what happens!
We will also discuss the ideas of wine and music pairing, and how certain wavelengths of rhythm and types of music and influence our sense of taste and wine enjoyment.
We hope you can make it for this new and fascinating class.
