VINTAGES: What makes for a great year for wine?

December 18, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Twin Cities Wine Education presents a new class that will open your eyes (and your palate) to what every year brings to the vineyards.

VINTAGES: What makes for a great year for wine?

What makes a fantastic wine vintage, a challenging vintage, a horrible vintage? What should the consumer know when spending hard earned money on bottles of wine?

The term ‘terroir’ is often used when talking about the set condition of a region (the soil, the slope, the drainage, etc.). But the vintage variation in wine is often about what happens above the ground, and it can make all the difference.

In this new class, we will step us through the topic of vintage variation in wine and give you hints and tips to build your confidence and help you get more bang for the buck. You will learn about weather patterns and the impact of global warming on wine, the inverse relationship between a ‘great’ vintage and one that sommeliers love, and more.

We will taste six great selections, to help you understand this often misunderstood topic, but with a twist: three whites from the same vineyard and same producer but different vintages, then three reds from the same vineyards and the same producer. An eye-opening night indeed!
