Viognier and Syrah: The Perfect Dance Partners

July 16, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Twin Cities Wine Education presents a fantastic new class
Viognier and Syrah: The Perfect Dance Partners
They are the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers of the wine world. They not only make stunning wines on their own, but help each other make a better whole through blending in some of the great wines of the world. This will be an incredible class, especially for fans of Northern Rhone wines.
Viognier is a personal favorite grape that was nearly extinct in the early 1970’s (down to under 25 acres in the Nothern Rhone). Over time it was coaxed back and we’ll cover the amazing story of the clonal selections brought to a country that has become a leader in the production of high quality Viognier.
Syrah is simply one of the great grapes of the wine world, producing medium to full bodied, meaty, spicy, harmonious wines from a diversity of terroirs. We’ll discuss the genetic history of the grape and the styles of wines produced throughout different regions of the world.
Then the real fun begins, tasting wines that are a combination of Viognier and Syrah in the tradition of Côte Rôtie in the Northern Rhone. Why is it that the sum becomes greater than the parts? How can the addition of a white grape make a red wine darker? We’ll cover these interesting questions in full detail!
I hope you can make it for the first ever “Perfect Dance Partners” wine class featuring Viognier and Syrah.
