Hi everyone –
It’s that time of year again! My favorite holiday!
We gather, we laugh, we eat, and we drink great wine. And I’ve got a perfect four-pack for you.
The theme this year is simple: wines that over-deliver on their price while being bright and fun for the table. These are four gems that I think will rock the pairing, whether you’re having turkey, ham, or a vegan meatloaf. All are bright, all are fun, all are juicy, and every drop is delicious.
Let’s get to it!

Dr. Konstantin Frank Grüner Veltliner 2023 – Finger Lakes, New York
There are few figures in American wine history as important — or as under-appreciated — as Dr. Konstantin Frank. A Ukrainian viticulturist who arrived in the U.S. in the 1950s speaking little English but carrying a lifetime of cool-climate grape wisdom, he is the person who proved (in the face of widespread skepticism) that vinifera grapes could thrive in the Northeast. His work essentially jump-started the modern Finger Lakes wine industry. Today the Frank family continues his legacy, producing crystalline, precise, aromatic wines that stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Europe.
This Grüner Veltliner is everything we love about the grape: white pepper, lime zest, crunchy pear, and a mineral streak that feels like tasting cold river stones. What makes it such a Thanksgiving MVP is its versatility. Grüner has enough acidity to slice through the richness of stuffing and gravy, enough aromatics to make friends with sage and roasted vegetables, and enough freshness to reset your palate after every indulgent bite. If your Thanksgiving table is a patchwork of flavors — and whose isn’t? — this is your universal adapter.

Mary Taylor Agénais Rosé 2024 – Southwest France
Mary Taylor’s wines are some of the best “story meets place meets value” wines being imported today. Her entire mission is to highlight classic European regions through honest, well-made, small-producer wines that don’t require a PhD to understand. Each bottle is clearly labeled with the winemaker’s name and region, letting the spotlight fall on the growers who have lived and worked those vineyards for generations. Her Agénais Rosé comes from the rolling countryside near Agen in Southwest France — a region with deep agricultural history and quietly outstanding vineyards.
The rosé itself is vibrant and joyfully dry, offering notes of tart cherry, strawberry hull, and a little herbal lift that makes it incredibly food-friendly. It’s not a “pool rosé” — it’s a table rosé, built for meals, conversation, and hours of grazing. That makes it perfect for Thanksgiving. It harmonizes with the cranberry sauce, plays beautifully with turkey, brightens up roasted vegetables, and adds refreshing lift to the whole spread. If you want a wine that brings everyone back for a second (or third) glass without palate fatigue, this is the one.

Les Croiselles ‘Cocoricot’ Malbec 2023 – IGP Côtes du Lot, France
Southwest France is the ancestral homeland of Malbec, long before Argentina made the grape famous. The members of the Croisille family are part of the new generation revitalizing the region around Cahors, focusing on elegance over power and farming with respect for their rugged limestone hillsides. Their wines have a brightness and lift that set them apart from the heavier, oak-laden styles people often associate with Malbec.
Cocoricot is pure, joyful Malbec — violets, blackberries, fresh plum, and just a touch of pepper and spice. It’s medium-bodied with lively acidity, making it a brilliant red for Thanksgiving. Where big reds can fight with the food, this one plays along beautifully. It complements turkey, supports stuffing, enhances roasted mushrooms, and absolutely crushes it with anything involving sage or thyme. If you’ve ever wanted a red that satisfies the red-wine-only folks and doesn’t overwhelm the meal, this is your ticket.

Vallana Barbera 2022 – Alto Piemonte, Italy
Vallana is one of the great traditional families of Alto Piemonte, producing wines in the region since the 1800s. Their style is wonderfully old-school: honest, unmanipulated, and centered on capturing the natural brightness of northern Italian grapes. Barbera — with its deep color, vibrant acidity, and easygoing tannins — is their calling card. The Vallana family has long been celebrated for making some of the most soulful and dependable wines in the region.
The 2022 Barbera is exactly what you want on a Thanksgiving table: juicy cherry fruit, a whisper of spice, and mouthwatering acidity that works like a palate reset button. It’s the kind of wine that invites another bite, then another glass, then another bite. Barbera is also one of the most food-friendly reds on earth, which makes it an ideal companion to a meal with such a wide range of flavors. From turkey to sweet potatoes to herb-laden stuffing, this wine navigates it all with grace.
